Development Action Society (DAS) is committed to creating sustainable livelihood options for women from marginalized communities through skill training and enterprise development. Our Skill Development programs aim to empower women to become financially independent, lead dignified lives, and contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.
Under our livelihood initiative supported by GOAL India, 40 women trained in jute craft continue to operate from a dedicated work shed in Khanaberia, forming a self-sustaining enterprise. These women, organized under SHGs, have successfully transitioned from hazardous jobs like rag-picking to safe and dignified livelihoods.
Orders have been procured from reputed agencies like ONGC and Sundarini (Govt. of West Bengal) to support their income.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the group produced over 10,000 reusable masks, which were distributed as part of hygiene kits. These were marketed with the support of teachers from Ashok Hall School, Kolkata.
To further expand opportunities, DAS has launched a Tailoring Training Program supported by ISRC. The program is tailored for women aspiring to become financially independent through sewing and tailoring.
Conducted three days a week, the program has enrolled 18 women in its second batch, including both new and continuing trainees.
The initiative focuses on building practical skills and confidence to enable women to pursue tailoring as a profession or home-based enterprise.
Support our mission to enable women to shape their own future.
