WATER, SANITATION AND HYGIENE (WASH)

Promoting Clean, Healthy, and Dignified Living

Since 2010, Development Action Society (DAS) has been implementing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives to improve the quality of life in underserved urban slums and later in rural areas across West Bengal. What began as an awareness campaign on safe water handling, hygiene practices, and sanitation has now evolved into a sustained, community-driven program.

Promoting handwashing, personal hygiene, and prevention of waterborne diseases.

Community Mobilization

Formation of 67 WATSAN (Water and Sanitation) Committees to lead local action and liaise with government bodies and private partners.

Over 87 schools covered, with toilet renovation in 26 Government schools to ensure hygiene access for children.

Facilitation of 300+ household toilets and 14 new water sources with 24 soak pits for improved drainage.

DAS has actively supported and implemented government schemes like Swachh Bharat Mission, Swachh Vidyalaya, Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan, and Nirmal Gram Abhiyan in partnership with local authorities.
