Welcome to Development Action Society
Development Action Society (DAS) was established in 1989 with the motto of ‘development of underprivileged women and children, regardless of their race, creed or religion; changing their world with the right kind of opportunities’. Few of us committed to the cause of the marginalized women and children rallied together under the auspices of DAS, which took a concrete shape from 1995 onwards. Since then the crusade for this cause continues in the peri-urban disadvantaged population of south and southeast Kolkata and 24 Parganas (South).
DAS is an equal opportunity organization, views its employees as a valuable resource in its mission, and acknowledges the potential and the need to develop beyond their current capacities through the application of proper principles. The programmes of DAS are rooted in values of justice, equality and mutual support that can ensure sustainable and holistic people-centered development. DAS’s values underpin everything it does that is reflected in all its communications.
DAS over the years has been able to chart out its own Child Protection Policy and Human Resources Policy based on organizational learning; the policies are manifested in its domain of activities undertaken. Hence, DAS prioritizes organizational development and management as a continuous process for its steady growth.
The basic elements of its approach to grass-root work will further strengthen developing peoples’ stakes, identifying, reorienting and maturing functional leaders in the community, fostering and strengthening community level organizations, helping the community to learn effective dealing with government and other resource institutions and simplifying and demystifying technology. In the spirit of being catalytic and incremental, DAS would like to collaborate widely with other actors in development sector.
